On this tour starting and finishing in Gretna Green, we cover 580 miles in 4 days making it suitable for less experienced tour riders.
All three regions have so much to offer the motorcyclist looking for quiet twisty roads, good scenery and excellent local food and accommodation. On this tour we stop at a Buddhist retreat for tea; a whisky distillery; a famous Scottish poets house and a Scottish motorcycle heritage museum.
We leave the Solway coast behind at Gretna Green and head into the hills on B roads through the Ettrick Forest making our way to Hawick for our first stop in this lovely Borders town renowned for cashmere textiles. Pressing on, we head toward the coast, then turn north astride the Lammermuir Hills with views east towards the North Sea and Fife and west to Lauderdale and beyond. Our second nights stay is at Peebles with all the facilities to relax and unwind after a day in the saddle.
On the second day, we cross the Forth heading for the Trossachs with its delightful small roads, visit the whisky distillery at Glenturret, pass tranquil lochs and glens covered in heather. Onward and upward, over upland moors and forested valleys towards Aberfeldy then turn west to the picturesque Falls of Dochart. South then west over narrow twisty roads, we approach our third night's stay renowned for its hospitality. A short distance away, Loch Katrine with its steamship makes for a stunning stroll in the long light evenings.
We now head west and up Loch Lomondside to the spectacular ‘Arrachar Alps’ and ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ before descending the Argyll Forest into Dunoon for the ferry to North Ayrshire. The day ends in Troon, the golfing "toon", overlooking Arran with the Mull of Kintyre in the background.
The last day of this tour we are in Dumfries and Galloway where the road takes us to quaint little fishing ports, winding forest panoramas and the highest village in Scotland and the last night in a well renowned Borders town.
